Way to Grow Annual Report 2024: The Future Is Now 150 150 Ann Frances Gregg

Way to Grow believes every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. In 2024, we celebrated 35 years of walking alongside families. Together, we work to ensure children are born healthy, stay healthy, and enter school ready to succeed. The Way to Grow Annual Report 2024, The Future Is Now, is not just a reflection on the past. Instead, it celebrates the everyday moments inspired by the people and partners who shape brighter futures.

Stories That Inspire from the Annual Report

From a preschool graduate choosing books to build a home library, to Ruby showing her children the power of persistence while earning her GED, the report highlights how determination and support create new possibilities. Family Educators like Saleta begin with the life-changing question, “What do you want?” As a result, parents are inspired to set goals and take steps towards dreams once thought impossible.

You’ll meet Maximo, a six-year-old whose love of learning has flourished since joining Way to Grow. His story reflects connection. Even as a toddler during the pandemic, he eagerly engaged with his Family Educator, Eveline, during virtual visits. That early bond grew into a love for reading, exploring, and asking big questions. Today, Maximo’s confidence shines whether he’s diving into his favorite book or raising his hand on a college tour with his sister, he embodies the curiosity and leadership we know will carry him far.

Leadership and Legacy at Way to Grow

2024 marked a milestone in leadership. We honored Carolyn Smallwood’s 20 years of visionary guidance, celebrating the growth and stability she brought to Way to Grow. Under her direction, the organization expanded into new communities, strengthened programs, and built a lasting foundation of trust with families. Carolyn chose the theme of this year’s Annual Report, The Future Is Now, was chosen with Carolyn at the helm, underscoring her commitment to building a strong present as the foundation for what is to come.

At the beginning of 2025, we welcomed our new CEO, Coco Du. In her letter, Coco affirms that the Annual Report is more than a celebration of the past; it is an affirmation of the future we are building in community. Her vision is grounded in both measurable impact and the day-to-day resilience of families. She strengthens connections with community partners and leaders, expanding the circle of people working together so children and families can thrive. Together, these commitments carry forward the spirit of possibility that has defined Way to Grow for 35 years.

This leadership transition reflects both stability and renewal. Carolyn’s legacy of expansion, trusted relationships, and strengthened programs ensures deep roots, while Coco’s leadership carries forward a vision centered on equity, community, and opportunity. Together, they affirm the continuity and possibility that define this new chapter and strengthen our shared commitment to closing opportunity gaps in early childhood education.
