Way to Grow knows that amazing things happen when Neighbors Who Care come together. This August, our friends at BDH Design, Words at Work, and 24 Seven Talent turned a weekday afternoon into a joyful act of service. Together, they packed 107 backpacks for Way to Grow children heading into the new school year!

The room was filled with laughter, teamwork, and purpose. Each backpack was more than just supplies, it was a step toward confidence, belonging, and a strong start for students across Minneapolis. Families served by Way to Grow will open these backpacks knowing their community is rooting for them!

Sharing the Heart of Our Work

Before the packing began, Family Educator Santa shared what Way to Grow looks like in action. Santa outlined how our home visiting model supports families from pregnancy through third grade with developmental tools, books, and educational activities. She also explained how we walk alongside parents as they build routines, communicate with teachers, and access vital resources like housing, health care, education, and employment support. Santa’s words reminded everyone that backpacks are just the beginning—that our mission is about ensuring every child is born healthy, stays healthy, and enters school ready to succeed.

A Mission Moment with Maria

Then came a story that brought the room to its feet. Family Educator Maria shared about her longtime work with a mother named Deysi. Years ago, Deysi was shy and uncertain, but through her partnership with Way to Grow she grew confident, involved, and determined. She read with her children, attended parent-teacher conferences, and modeled persistence by setting and achieving her own goals.

Just weeks ago, Deysi proudly earned her driver’s license after months of studying and practice. When Maria told the group this update, the room erupted in cheers. For Deysi, a driver’s license meant freedom: the ability to take her children to school, the library, the park, and medical appointments. For Way to Grow, it symbolizes something larger; a family strengthened, a parent empowered, and children who see what resilience looks like in action.

Community in Action

This event was part of BDH’s Acts of Kindness initiative, and it truly lived up to the name. By inviting their suite neighbors to join, BDH created something larger than a single project. Together, the three companies celebrated what it means to be part of a community that shows up for families and for one another.

Way to Grow celebrates our neighbors for turning generosity into action. Their support reflects the heart of our mission—when children and families feel prepared, they can step into new experiences with joy and resilience!
