June is Children’s Awareness Month, and it’s a time to celebrate children, advocate for their well-being, and think about what helps them grow up healthy, safe, and confident. One way to do that this summer is with a refresher on summer safety for families!

Safety is part of everyday family life. It shows up in small moments like checking the weather before heading outside, knowing where to go during a storm, keeping an eye on little ones near the water, and having a few basic supplies on hand, just in case. This month, we’re sharing a series of practical, family-focused posts on safety topics that come up often in conversations with the families we serve. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, caregiver, or just visiting a friend’s home, this series offers simple, practical safety tips every household can use!

What’s in the Summer Safety Series

Severe Weather Safety for Kids Minnesota weather can change fast. This post covers how to talk to young children about storms, make a simple family weather plan, and help kids feel calm when the weather is unpredictable. ⛈️

Water Safety for Young Children Summer in Minnesota means lakes, splash pads, and pools. This post covers touch supervision, life jackets, swim lessons, and ways to find free resources – just in time for the Fourth of July weekend! 🎇

Building a Family Emergency Kit A family emergency kit doesn’t have to cost a lot. This post shows families what to include in their emergency kit, how to build it over time, and how to get children involved. 🎒

Safety Is Part of Everyday Life

Safety is just one part of raising young children. We hope this summer safety series gives your family a few practical ideas, helpful resources, and simple ways to start conversations together!
